"The Toones" Decorative Gourd Bird House

I painted this for my friends as a wedding present.  On one side I painted their portraits with their wedding date above them and on the other side I wrote their last name.  I topped it off with a big burlap bow for a little something extra and they loved it!

Round Chalkboard Platter
(Front)
I found a big wooden platter among all my craft supplies and decided to give it new life! I decorated the back with a bright floral design and covered the front with chalkboard paint.

"The Maples" Ceramic Plate

When I was in high school and college I worked as a custom artist at a local pottery shop in my home town of Bowling Green, Kentucky.  The last time I went home, I stopped by and painted a plate to hang in my house.  I decided that cartoon versions of my husband and I would be far more fitting to our personalities and lifestyle than some dignified landscape or a bunch of fancy designs.
Chalk/Cork Board

It's the best of both worlds!  Use the push pins to attach grocery lists or receipts and use the chalk board to write down reminders or little love notes.

Red Vintage Picture Frame 19x21.5"

I made this frame as a gift for my friend, Ashley.

Pencil Sketch Portraits

My parents first nocticed I had the ability to draw when I was a young child.  I would sit for hours in front of the television drawing saturday morning cartoons or whatever else fascinated me.

I began drawing portraits at the age of sixteen.  I love to draw them because I feel there is so much you can learn just by the details in a person's face.  The curve of their smile, the furrow of their brow, or the sparkle in their eyes.  By the time I finish, I feel as if I know their life story.

(Sorry for the yellow tint in this photograph!)

Pet Portraits

Aside from drawing portraits of people, I am often asked to draw those who are furrier in nature.  These are by far, my favorite kind of portrait to do.  I'm a sucker for anything with four legs and wagging tale!
"Chester Roonie" 16x20" Acrylic on canvas
I painted this portrait of my own dog, a Miniature Schnauzer named, Chester.  I like to think that he was, and will always be my first child.

Resolutions

"Resolutions"  18x24"  Acrylic on Canvas
I painted this at the beginning of 2011 and hung it in my bedroom as a daily reminder of what I hoped to accomplish that year.  I'm proud to announce that I succeeded at all but TWO of the things I'd hoped to get done that year.
(Since you're wondering, they were camping and horse back riding....)

"Farm Landscape"  16x20"  Acrylic on Canvas

"Titans Collage"  3x4'  Acrylic on Wood

This was a birthday present for my oldest nephew, Chase.  He loves the titans, and anything football related, so I made a special painting just for him to hang in his room.

"1982 in the Apple Orchard" 20x24" Acrylic on Canvas

This painting was inspired by a photograph I had of my brother when he was a child.  I loved the feeling that the picture gave me, and all the wonderful memories it brough back of running around and climbing the apple trees at my grandparents' farm when we were young.

"Family Tree" 3X4' Acrylic on Canvas

This was a custom piece my friend, Morgan, asked me to paint for her to hang in her kitchen.

"Lily Claire"  16x20"  Acrylic on Canvas

This was a portrait of my neighbor's little girl, Lily.

"Soul Flower"  Acrylic on Wood
(this is actually an old cabinet door I found on the side of the road.)

"Peacock Feathers and Shears"  18x24"  Acrylic on Canvas

I painted this piece along with the 'Peacock Feather Dream Catcher" for my hair dresser to hang in her salon.

"Peacock Feather Dream Catcher"  18x24"  Acrylic on Canvas

"Big Rig"  11x14"  Acrylic on Canvas

This was a custom piece I did for a friend back home in Kentucky!  (That's right, I'm a Kentucky girl!)  She asked if I'd paint her husbands truck as a gift for him.

"Sulligent High School Prom 2012 back drop"

This is actually a HUGE piece that I painted for the school where my husband teaches at for their prom.  As much as I'd like to take the credit for this project, I actually could not have gotten it done with out the help from several student volunteers and a very talented Home Economics teacher!

"Lulu and Marcus"  18x24" Acrylic on Canvas
This was a wedding present for my friend, Lulu and her husband Marcus.  It's a spin off from the classic painting, "American Gothic."  I wanted it to have a very unique and vintage look so I decopaged pages from old books onto the canvas and used crackle paint to give the painting a distressed look.

"McNatt Farms"  2x3' Acrylic on Canvas
This was a farmscape I painted for my friend, Jennifer, to give to her parents for Christmas.

"The Duke" 20x24" Acrylic on canvas
I painted this as a birthday present for my husband.  He loves John Wayne and had been asking me to paint him something to hang in his "man cave."  We both love this picture very much.
