Ink Sketches

I've recently fallen in love with ink!! It allows me to portray the realism of the photograph while enjoying the whimsical nature of my artistic style.

"My Old Kentucky Home"

16x20" acrylic on canvas
A close friend of mine asked me to paint her something that would remind her of home. She said all she wanted was it to have an RC Cola and a Moon Pie somewhere in the painting. Since I'm from Kentucky too, I understood exactly what she meant. So I created an old store front with a sleeping dog. Home sweet home....

"The Defenders"

24x36" acrylic on canvas.
I was asked to paint a recreation of this beautiful painting, originally by Elizabeth Kinaha. (www.elizabethkinaha.com)

"The Toones" Decorative Gourd Bird House

I painted this for my friends as a wedding present.  On one side I painted their portraits with their wedding date above them and on the other side I wrote their last name.  I topped it off with a big burlap bow for a little something extra and they loved it!

Round Chalkboard Platter
(Front)
I found a big wooden platter among all my craft supplies and decided to give it new life! I decorated the back with a bright floral design and covered the front with chalkboard paint.

"The Maples" Ceramic Plate

When I was in high school and college I worked as a custom artist at a local pottery shop in my home town of Bowling Green, Kentucky.  The last time I went home, I stopped by and painted a plate to hang in my house.  I decided that cartoon versions of my husband and I would be far more fitting to our personalities and lifestyle than some dignified landscape or a bunch of fancy designs.
Chalk/Cork Board

It's the best of both worlds!  Use the push pins to attach grocery lists or receipts and use the chalk board to write down reminders or little love notes.

Red Vintage Picture Frame 19x21.5"

I made this frame as a gift for my friend, Ashley.

Pencil Sketch Portraits

My parents first nocticed I had the ability to draw when I was a young child.  I would sit for hours in front of the television drawing saturday morning cartoons or whatever else fascinated me.

I began drawing portraits at the age of sixteen.  I love to draw them because I feel there is so much you can learn just by the details in a person's face.  The curve of their smile, the furrow of their brow, or the sparkle in their eyes.  By the time I finish, I feel as if I know their life story.

(Sorry for the yellow tint in this photograph!)

Pet Portraits

Aside from drawing portraits of people, I am often asked to draw those who are furrier in nature.  These are by far, my favorite kind of portrait to do.  I'm a sucker for anything with four legs and wagging tale!
"Chester Roonie" 16x20" Acrylic on canvas
I painted this portrait of my own dog, a Miniature Schnauzer named, Chester.  I like to think that he was, and will always be my first child.
